About Laura

Art has always been my greatest communication tool, helping me to untangle and make sense of my feelings.  My work is shaped by my cultural identity and heritage, and I focus on how we uncover, process and share difficult histories and their contemporary relevance.

I have a strong textiles practice but choose materials and processes most suited to the subject I'm exploring. I work in a laborious process based way; interrogating archives, testimony and symbolic materials. I recognise that the performative process is of equal importance to the end result.

I have an undergraduate degree in Embroidery and a Masters Degree in Art As Environment. Combined these have nurtured a socially responsible art practice placing people and narratives at the forefront.

I exhibit my artwork, undertake art residencies in museums and archives, and work on private commissions.  I have extensive experience as a community based artist and am a part time textile facilitator at Venture Arts, Manchester. I strive to nurture community cohesion, intercultural dialogues, celebrate identity and heritage, and promote well-being.
